If you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts …

The Lord says in Hebrews 3:15, “ “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

13 years ago, I heard that still small voice who was trying to warn and protect me, but I didn’t listen to it. I later learned I resisted God’s Will.

Back then, I was attending a Spiritual Retreat at St. Monica Catholic Church.

As soon as I stepped outside the Retreat Center, I found right in front of me on the ground a white piece of hard paper like a square. On that paper, there was something written like a spiritual quote with the words, “look up to the sky.” I felt a small voice within that caught my attention. Deep inside, the soft and gentle voice told me, “Jean-Marc, stay here and sit down on the bench.”

So I thought to myself, Why should I stay here? Everybody is going out to take a break and get some fresh air, why me? I was debating and negotiating with that voice. Eventually, I said to myself, I am going out. The street was quiet. I could hear the birds and the sky was entirely blue.

I stepped on the sidewalk. When I hit the crosswalk on Washington Avenue and 7th Street, about two/three blocks away, I turned around and decided to cross the street to return to the retreat center.

When I reached the middle of the crosswalk, I heard the loud screech of a car braking. And suddenly, I heard a big boom, and something slammed into me!  Then all went dark.
