Pursuing God’s Will and Holiness …

In my upcoming book about how we can all find purpose and harmony by seeking & listening to the Voice Within (God’s Voice), there is a passage where I described how God spoke to me through movies and the study of the lives of Saints.

This week, I received a newsletter that talked about a movie I never heard of. The movie is titled: “Man of God.”

Here is a synopsis: exiled unjustly, convicted without trial, slandered without cause. Man of God depicts the trials and tribulations of Saint Nektarios of Aegina, as he bears the unjust hatred of his enemies while preaching the Word of God.

So two nights ago, I felt in my heart the desire to watch Man of God.

Wow, this is a movie that for the first time in a long time so deeply touched my feelings and soul. I have been feeling overwhelmed since then. This is definitively a must see movie.

For someone who is a work in progress when it comes to respond and react in the face injustice, suffering and wrongdoings, the story of Saint Nektarios of Aegina provides me some powerful life lessons. His story taught me that the best way to respond is with silence, patience, love, mercy, prayer, resilience, humility and faith in God. Those virtues can certainly help us to grow in holiness and become beacons of light to others.

This movie was also another calling to holiness and the ways of God.

Toward the end of the film, the spiritual fatherhood of St. Nektarios is shown. He explained to his spiritual son that he heard an inner voice tell him to go to an island and to bring a group of women who wanted to become nuns and form a monastery of their own.

That experience had such impact on my soul that I decided to do further research about Saint Nectarios of Aegina and eventually learn how he grew in intimacy with God’s Voice. God willing, I will add a section about him in my book.
